One
Not an easy game to search for on internet, One was a third-person-shooter that was very similar to Apocalypse which was release around the same time, also on the PlayStation.
One was a 3D shooter that felt more like a top-down version of Contra than say, a game like Gears of War. It also used the dual-analog thumbstick controls in the same manner as Apocalypse, which is also the same controls style as Smash TV. Tank controls, I've heard them referred to as, though I'm not sure that's the correct terminology. Basically, one stick controls your movement direction and the other one simultaneously controls your weapon firing direction. This provides a very shoot-em-up style of action which is unique in a game of this design.
One featured a dark dystopian future where you play as the protagonist John Cain in a fight to recover his past after waking up in his apartment under attack from the police and a gun replacing his one arm. One takes you from the deep city to the countryside through 6 levels, each with a boss. Including one level I remember in particular where you fight on top of a zeppelin with the city passing by beneath you.
One was a simple game, but a unique one. And yet another title that I would love to have seen rebuilt for newer consoles. It's dark sci-fi design and dual-stick shooter controls were fantastic and over a decade later still stands out on it's own. It definitely had that typical PS1 look with the dark backgrounds and short draw distance, chunky textures and low resolution. A look that is starting to prove more and more nostalgic over time, even if it wasn't a great look exactly. One is available for download on the PS3 via PSONE Classics, I really should grab it again.
