DAY 73 / GAME 73 Pen Pen Triicelon

DAY 73 / GAME 73

Pen Pen Triicelon

Like I've said before, the Dreamcast was full of absolutely ridiculous games.  Pen Pen Triicelon was no exception.  I have no idea why I decided to purchase this game.  Maybe I figured it was just to bizarre to leave on the shelves.
As you might guess, the game is a three part race where you waddle, slide and swim to the finish.  You get to choose from a selection of bizarre alien penguins, each who excel at different portions of the track.  They also have absurd descriptions that have no bearing whatsoever on their ability to race  For example:  Mr Bow, who is a 'Pen-Dog' has "no regard for his safety, this reckless guy tends to leap before he looks. Bordering on stupidity, the foolhardy Mr Bow will always dive straight into things with reckless abandon."  ..Speechless.

The game itself wasn't very big and certainly wouldn't be able to retail for the same as a full price game in today's market.  But it was enough fun at the time.  Being able to play up to 4 player split-screen was a big bonus.  There's nothing better than showing up to game night with some friends and busting out this thing.  All the characters are so bizarre, the tracks even moreso.  Each track is themed and has an owner, like Mrs Cream and Horror Man.  ("He is 4771 years old and loves scaring others." )

It's doesn't get too much weirder than this.  I mean, maybe Seaman, but this is pretty much the cusp of what made it stateside from Japan.  I sure had fun with it at the time and even now and again it's hilarious to bring it out, especially to show someone who's never heard of it.
